Farm Chores for Our Youngest Guests

At the Gradišnik Organic Tourist Farm, children experience more than just a holiday — they enjoy an authentic glimpse into life in the countryside. Through everyday farm chores, they naturally connect with the animals, understand their rhythm, and develop a sense of responsibility.

Each activity becomes a story of its own — full of warmth, curiosity, and unforgettable moments.

Milking cows

Milking the cows is often one of the most interesting and unforgettable experiences for children on the farm. In the early morning hours, they can observe how the day on the farm begins in the barn, where a calm and peaceful atmosphere prevails. In the company of experienced hosts, they get to know the entire milking process — from preparing the cows to collecting the milk itself. Children see how important gentleness and patience are, as animals can sense a person’s attitude. This contact helps them overcome any fear they may have and develop respect for animals.

At the same time, they also learn where the milk they drink every day comes from and how important it is to care for the well-being of the animals. Watching the milking is not just a passive experience — children can also help with small tasks and become even more involved in the process. Later, when they enjoy fresh milk or homemade dairy products at breakfast, the feeling is even more special, because they know they were part of the process. Such an experience remains in their memory as an authentic connection between people, animals, and nature.

Collecting eggs

Collecting eggs is a little adventure for children, beginning with their very first steps into the henhouse. Full of curiosity, they explore where the hens have hidden their eggs and happily discover each new “treasure”. In the process, they learn how hens live, what they need for their well-being, and how important regular care is. Every egg they find is a small reward that gives children a sense of pride and satisfaction.

This simple task becomes an important learning experience, as children come to understand that food does not appear on a shop shelf by itself, but is the result of care, work, and natural processes. The eggs they collect themselves can later also be used in preparing breakfast, which makes the experience even more meaningful. In this way, they develop respect for food and an awareness of the importance of local, home-grown produce. At the same time, they enjoy playful contact with the animals, who often follow them with curious looks and cheerful clucking.

Feeding animals

Feeding the animals is one of those tasks through which children most quickly begin to feel a sense of responsibility. Every animal on the farm has its own needs, its own rhythm, and its favourite food. Children help prepare the feed and then, together with the hosts, distribute it among the animals — from cows and calves to hens and other farm residents. In doing so, they learn how important regular and proper feeding is, and how it affects the health and well-being of the animals.
Direct contact with the animals during feeding also brings a great deal of joy and warmth. The calves curiously come closer, the hens eagerly gather around the food, and the cats patiently wait for their share. Through this, children develop a sense of compassion, gentleness, and respect for living beings. Feeding the animals is therefore not just a chore, but a moment of connection, where genuine bonds are formed between the child and nature. Such experiences remain deeply rooted in memory and often become the most cherished moments of time spent on the farm.
